Bio-Fenton-Assisted Biological Process for Efficient Mineralization of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons from the Environment

چکیده
The intensive production of fossil fuels has led to serious polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination in water and soil environments (as PAHs are typical types emerging contaminants). Bio-Fenton, an alternative Fenton oxidation, which generates hydrogen peroxide at a nearly neutral pH condition, could ideally work as pretreatment recalcitrant organics, be combined with the subsequent biological treatment without any need for adjustment. present study investigated performance Bio-Fenton-assisted process mineralization three PAHs. production, PAH removal, overall organic mineralization, microbial community structure were comprehensively studied. results showed that achieve efficient chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal (88.1%) mixed compared activated sludge (33.1%), where individual efficiencies 99.6%, 83.8%, 91.3% observed naphthalene (NAP), anthracene (ANT), pyrene (PYR), respectively, process.

Investigating the Presence of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Doogh
Background and purpose: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are one of the most common environmental pollutants that are proven to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. Doogh, is a widely consumed fermented yoghurt drink in Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the presence and concentration of PAHs in different brands of Doogh in Tehran, Iran. Materials and methods: In this study, we synt...
متن کاملDNA Damage from Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), of which benzo[a]pyrene is a representative member, are combustion-related environmental pollutants and include known carcinogens. Laboratory animal studies indicate that the dose of PAHs to the fetus is on the order of a 10th that to the mother and that there is heightened susceptibility to PAH-induced carcinogenesis during the fetal and infancy periods....
متن کاملMineralization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by a bacterium isolated from sediment below an oil field.
Microbiological analyses of sediments chronically exposed to petrogenic hydrocarbons resulted in the isolation of a gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium which mineralized naphthalene (59.5% of the original amount), phenanthrene (50.9%), fluoranthene (89.7%), pyrene (63.0%), 1-nitropyrene (12.3%), 3-methylcholanthrene (1.6%), and 6-nitrochrysene (2.0%) to carbon dioxide when grown for 2 weeks in ...

a few people, however, who recognize a need to use the system but, for reasons of their own, choose to have a search intermediary do it for them or at least work with them on a graphical search session. At this point, therefore, it appears that the role of the search specialist has evolved away from searches originated by individual users (except in a few cases) who now can and should run their...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...
